SERVICE TRIP TO ZANSKAR – LADAKH JUNE 2014

Join TCEF Project Manager Valerie Hellermann on an adventurous journey to Zanskar in NW India this June. We are working with Lobsang Choephel, President of the Himalayan Cultural Preservation and Ecological Society – Zanskar and Geshe Yonten, a Zanskari monk working to provide educational sponsorships to children of remote villages lacking educational opportunities.

This trip will take us through remote Himalayan villages often isolated for 7-8 months of the year. This is the last intact traditional Tibetan culture .
We have been asked to teach a basic first aide class and provide basic school nurse screening(eye, ear and basic health) as well as a project with the school children.

An interesting side trip will be to view an artificial glacier in Ladakh. As a result of climate change the Himalayan glaciers are receding quite rapidly causing some villages to be abandoned. A n engineer from the region has designed and built several artificial glaciers which we are excited to go and see. Please view this link-
