The Tibetan Sand Mandala

A sand mandala construction is  a quintessential expression of Tibetan art – complete with centuries old history, unique patterns, and vibrant colors all wrapped in rich and rational Buddhist philosophy centered on compassion and universal responsibility. A mandala is a two-dimensional representation of a three-dimensional palace that exists in the mind of the artist. It is considered a place where Buddhist deities reside. The intricate process of creating a mandala, which requires great patience and focus, serves as an aid to Buddhist meditation. A sand mandala construction is a beautiful event – full of colors, meditation and dedication.
